On our way to Our Lady Hospice Thigio
What a wonderful and beautiful caring world of Palliative and Hospice care in Kenya. So many great people who are improving the care of the elderly and those with a life limiting illness. I have been so blessed meeting the best in their field in Kenya. I have so much to tell. I have recorded interviews with 4 physicians, a Catholic sister who is an administrator of a hospital, a Catholic sister who operates an inpatient (much like a nursing home) and an outpatient hospice in addition to an onsite school and a classroom with special needs children as well as an adult daycare program, and a local Kikuyu tribe member who has been our professional transportation. I’ll be back to Nairobi on the 30th to interview Dr. Zipporah Ali who is the Executive Director of the KEHPCA and Dr. Bridget who, from what I understand is the pioneer of Palliative Care in Nairobi. I travel on a bus to Migori tomorrow for 8 hours to meet up with a team of surgeons from around the United States. I am going to follow this post with some pictures of my travels and interviews from the last two days (after I go grocery shopping with Steve for the surgery team coming tomorrow……stand by…… smile emoticon ) I will follow up with the in-depth interviews as I have a chance to write and post with my limited wi-fi and phone service. Great stuff happening in Elder, Palliative and Hospice Care in the Nairobi area.
